WEG Star Wars Style Guide 1994

Star Wars RPG

I discovered WEG Star Wars RPG in 1987 with its first printing and was blown away. The rules were simple and easy to master as well as teach. The feel of the RPG nailed the Star Wars Universe perfectly.

In 1994, I was 21 and obsessed with Star Wars, role-playing games, and becoming a writer. At the time the West End Games Star Wars RPG was at the height of its popularity.

I gathered my courage and wrote to West End Games. In the mail, I received the Star Wars Style Guide Version 2.0, August 1994. I fooled around and never submitted anything.

Several years ago the WEG Style Guide gained recognition on the internet. I knew I had it somewhere but couldn’t find it. Then during some pandemic cleaning, I found it neatly preserved in a binder with tons of notes of things I would never send to WEG.

Well, I scanned the pages. Now, we can all enjoy what are the best guidelines on how to write for the Star Wars universe.

CREDIT: To the best of my knowledge the WEG Style Guide was co-authored by Bill Smith and Peter Schweighofer. Bill Smith has an official website dedicated to his novels the Outlaw Galaxy series. Peter Schweighofer creates RPG resources under the banner of Griffon Publishing Studio and his gamebooks are listed on DriveThruRPG.

DISCLAIMER: No copyright infringement is intended. I have posted these images for entertainment, educational, and historical value. The guide was never intended or offered for sale and West End Games is out of business. Star Wars is, of course, a registered trademark of Lucasfilm and Disney.

West End Games Interviews

I interviewed Bill Slavicsek on my podcast, but sadly it was before I found the WEG Style Guide. He wrote most of the original Star Wars RPG Sourcebook, though he may have left the company by the time this guide was written. Listen here: West End Games Star Wars to D&D to Elder Scrolls Online with Bill Slavicsek

I’ve also interviewed Peter Corless who worked at West End Games: West End Games to Pendragon RPG with Peter Corless

  1. Thanks so much for uploading these pages. I’ve been on the lookout for this for years, even keeping an eye on eBay in case anyone ever chose to sell their copy. I hope you can scan and upload the remaining pages. It’s such an interesting and important piece of Star Wars history!

  2. Oh, the table of contents lists 32 pages, and I only see 18 here. Is there a part 2 of this coming? I’d love to see even the technical bits.

  3. Bah, this is the holy grail for everyone who collects WEG stuff. may I suggest posting the remaining pages so we call all see it?

  4. Would you be OK with me transcribing this into text and posting it (with the remaining 14? pages, whenever you post that) on my site?

  5. I actually am only hardly interested in Star Wars, but I’m happy to see, that you publish written stuff here. I’m way behind with the podcast (just reached April 2020), and reading here a few things now and then is much easier for me. So … keep gaming and keep posting!
