The Way of the Samurai
Today we learn about Table Forged their new game Kettou. I will challenge you and only the true samurai will emerge victorious.
When did your love of games begin?
I think like everyone I’ve always loved games. For me the gaming world really expanded with Dungeons and Dragons. I remember being 13 and staying up late, when I was suppose to be asleep, to design character classes and modules for the game. I’ve always looked at a game and thought what if they did this instead. I also remember being a kid, before Magic the Gathering came out, making my friend play a modified version of war with me imagining the cards taking on different characteristics. There was also this one time when me and my friend spent all summer coming up with this war game on graph pieces of paper. So I think I’ve always loved games, but who doesn’t!?
Why create games?
This is a great question. You know I’ve always been doing it in some form since I can remember so, I think it’s something I don’t think about a lot and just do. The emergence of platforms like Kickstarter have really helped make it possible for people to share their game ideas with the world (Hopefully it stays this way). I think that’s an amazing opportunity for anyone to try, and everyone with the passion for it should!
What is Table Forged? How did it come about?
Table Forged is a small group of friends that have been playing games together for the last 20+ years. It’s one of those things where we always talked about starting a business, but never got around to. About 4 years about my Partner Troy and I finally decided to try and do it. Our friends all supported us and our spokesdwarf JC jumped in to help! Kickstarter back then was becoming more and more popular and the opportunity was there so we went for it. It really took off when we won an entrepreneurial marketing fellowship with Gen Con in 2014. We were able to really meet the community and become a part of it. Since then we’ve been growing and learning lots!
Tell us about your games.
We really want our games to be something that players remember. We want them to be able to make memories and share their experience after they are done. Our first game Iron & Ale is a rowdy off-the-table Dwarven Drinking Game. It features real challenges against other players and makes for a very memorable night. We know there are so many games out there, and that the market is growing. We hope to give gamers a very different and epic choice for game night!
What is Kettou?
Kettou is a Samurai Themed Reflex Game. It is inspired by the ancient Japanese game of Karuta. In it players duel each other taking on the role of legendary historic Samurai. Players compete to be the first to touch hit location
cards in between them to deal damage to each other. The players are also given boosts by Bushido Combat Cards, which involves a dice rolling mechanic and strategic placement element.
How can people get their hands on Kettou?
It’s on Kickstarter right now! Take a look let us know what you think, we appreciate any help spreading the word. The community really does decide what gets made when it comes to smaller companies trying to make games. Here’s the link: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1941136212/kettou-the-samurai-reflex-card-game
What does the future hold for Forged Table?
We really hope to be able to show off KETTOU at Gen Con 2016 this year. Iron & Ale will be all ready to Dwarf Up Gen Con, and we look forward to saying hello to all our convention friends. We also have about 3 games we’ve been working on for the last few years and hope to someday produce those as well. We’re going to keep going as long as the community wants us around. We appreciate everything our backers and fans have done for us so far. We are eternally grateful to them so anything else at this point is a plus for us as a company!
